Monty Python’s Flying Circus was a legendary British sketch show, running from 1969 to 1974. It launched the careers of the original Pythons through its absurdist and boundary-pushing comedy. Originally made for the BBC and broadcast in England, the show was picked up by PBS affiliates in the 70’s.
For huge chunks of America it was the first glimpse of British Humor and absurdist comedy. The quote above was used often as a cold open, or a non sequitur transition between sketches. John Cleese would simply appear in a tuxedo behind a news desk in random locations, announcing “And now for something completely different.” And the next sketch would begin.

I used this message once, after internally announcing my resignation from my job and transitioning into a new role with a new company. It was a fitting tribute to that career change, especially given the absurd things that followed.
But those are stories for another time.
